The Holly Data Center derives more than 20% of our daytime power from one of the largest solar systems built in Kansas City for a facility our size. By utilizing 108 high capacity solar panels we are generating roughly 25Kva of power, and offsetting more than 50 thousands or pounds of CO2 gasses every year.  And it even will ultimately save us some money, particularly as rates in the Midwest start to rise. Unlike some sites we make no attempt to store power or return it to the grid as our facility like most Data Centers now uses so much power that there is never a time when we produce more power than we use.

History:

The Obama US Federal Stimulus Act and a $2 a watt credit from KCP&L promoted the Holly Data Center and KC NAP, LLC to design a state of the art system with planning beginning in October of 2011 and construction starting in late November.  We are very grateful for these intensives as without them the $100,000 spent on the system would not have been possible. We estimate that with the intensives the system will pay for itself in under 6 years and after that time will continue to supply power for the next 25 years with little additional maintenance costs.

In the Fall of 2011, Cromwell Solar installed a 25kW PV system for Kansas City Network Access Point (KC NAP).  KC NAP, located in downtown Kansas City, MO, is Kansas City's provider of choice for Internet Services and private NAP access. KC NAP operates the only solar powered private Network Access Point located in the heartland.  They chose Cromwell Solar to install their system based on Cromwell's experience in commercial solar design and installation.
